2004 Mini Van ‘Restomod’ Lotus Engine

£SOLD

12,000 miles

This incredibly unique Mini ‘Restomod’ was extensive featured and adorned the cover of Mini World Magazine when it was completed in the mid-2000s who referred to it as the best ‘non-Mini-engined Mini.’ The unique body started as a Mini Van that was enhanced with sports pack arches with the striking flip front-end configuration.

Even more extreme than the body of this build is the Lotus Elise K-series engine that powers the vehicle. Fitting this engine from the 1999 Lotus required a front subframe from a Metro GTi to be fitted and adapted and the powertrain was mated to a 5-speed transmission also from a Metro 1.4 GTi. Further, the car also required a new fuel tank to be fitted and adapted accordingly and for a bespoke radiator and cooling system to be installed. The suspension on the vehicle is a combination of Mini, Metro GTi and bespoke fabricated parts and the braking system is from a Mini Cooper S.

In addition to the unique body styling and fitment of the 145bhp power unit, the car also enjoyed a complete body restoration in the striking Light Blue it presents in today. At the time of the build, the car was fitted with bucket seats and a roll cage, of which the later remains but the former has been replaced for more period leather seats.
