The launch of the Jaguar XJ6 in 1968 and its Daimler Sovereign relative that followed in 1969, redefined expectations in the luxury car sector. The new model truly 'moved the goalposts', setting new standards in comfort, refinement, styling and handling. A waiting list was quick to form and enthusiasm remained strong upon the introduction of the Series II cars in 1973.
The Saloon was available in standard or long wheelbase variant but this was to soon be joined by the striking and iconic pillarless coupe, crafted around the short wheelbase and adorned with black vinyl-covered roofs. The coupe retained the saloon's supple all-round independent coil and wishbone suspension, disc brakes and power steering and was available with either the 4.2 litre straight-six XK unit or the 5.3 litre, V12.
The Daimler Sovereign is the significantly rarer variant of Jaguars iconic 70s pillarless coupe, with just 1,677 Daimler Sovereign 4.2 Coupés reportedly produced by the time production ended in 1978 with 613 built in 1977 and only 6 in the final year.
We are delighted to offer this well-presented and sympathetically preserved example that is finished in the striking combination of Red exterior complemented by the black vinyl roof in exceptional condition and a luxurious black leather interior. We have recently commissioned a full engine rebuild on the vehicle with a Jaguar specialist, to complement the strong cosmetic condition. The car is still accompanied by a host of original Daimler literature and books and sits as a beautiful example that is ready to be enjoyed for many years to come.
